The Fourth International Conference on Building Information Modeling with the focus on “Capacities, requirements and experiences of BIM in various projects in the construction industry” was held on 18, 19 and 20 October 2021. Due to the spread of the coronavirus, this conference was held online and fortunately, as in previous eras, it was widely welcomed by the audience in this field. Specialized panels, keynote speeches by local and international professors, expression of BIM implementation experiences in various projects, presentation of scientific papers were among the programs envisaged at the conference.
In this period of the conference, programs including 20 keynote speeches, 8 specialized panels, 17 workshops and presentation of 12 research papers, 16 poster papers were held simultaneously in three online events for the interested parties.
On the first day of the conference, the opening program of Event One began with a welcome and introduction of the conference programs by Dr. Mojtaba Azizi as the conference manager and with a keynote speech by Dr. Hamed Manifar (Director General of the Office of National Regulation and Building Control), Dr. Masoud Shafiei (Head of the Management and Planning Organization of Tehran Province) and Mr Amir Safiri (BIM Consultant and Specialist in Swiss Infrastructure Projects) continued.
Following the programs of the first day in Event One, three keynote speeches were given by Dr. Mohammad Reza Alavipour, Mr Afshin Osuli and Dr. Mohammad Shokrchizadeh. Simultaneously, in two other parallel events, the conference will focus on “Explaining the vision document and long-term plan for BIM implementation in Tehran construction projects and its executive instructions”, “Opportunities and challenges of implementing BIM in petrochemical projects” and “Automatic control of architectural plans in Tehran Municipality Licensing Process was held using Building Information Modeling. At the end, three workshops were presented by Dr. Kherun Nita Ali, Dr. Paul Coates and Mr. Mehdi Boroumand.
The second day program was similar to the first day. Speakers of this day: Dr. Jack Cheng, Mr Sina Ramezanian, Mr Hossein Kharashadizadeh, Mr Mehdi Kheiri, Mr Aref Gerzin Motai, Mr Ghasem Ariani, Dr. Mojtaba Maghrabi, Dr. Mohammad Saleh Dashti, Dr. Saeed Rokouei, Mr Amir Karami, Dr. Farzad Pourrahimian, Dr. Fonbeyin Henry Abanda, Dr. Hamid Aladpoush and Mr Babak Vahedi. The lectures were given simultaneously in three parallel online events, and participants used the Q&A section to ask questions and receive answers from the speaker. There are also four specialized roundtables on “Design to operation of smart factories, with a view to the fourth industrial revolution”, “Needs assessment, capacity assessment and requirements for BIM implementation in health projects”, “Challenges and experiences of BIM implementation in water and ABFA projects” and “Capacities and Challenges of Digital Transformation in Upstream Oil and Gas Industry Development Projects Focusing on BIM Implementation Experiences in Azadegan Oilfield Development Plan” was held in the presence of senior managers and activists in this field.
And on the last day of the speech, Dr. Mohsen Kalantari, Dr. Samuel Egwunatum, Dr. Arash Gheshmi, Mr Ghasem Ariani, Mr Sajjad Jafarian, Mr Shayan Hojjatpanah, Dr. Esmatollah Noorzaei, Mr Amir Hossein Mirkoushesh were presented. A specialized roundtable on “Using BIM and recording smart information in municipal control processes” was also held. Simultaneously, in the third event, 12 research papers were presented orally.
Finally, at the end of the conference, a specialized table on “Review of upstream documents and legal capacities of BIM development in the country” with the presence of Dr. Iqbal Shakeri (Secretary of the Conference and member of the Civil Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly), Dr. Mojtaba Azizi (Director and Scientific Secretary of the conference) ), Dr. Mohammad Shokrchizadeh (Head of Road, Housing and Urban Development Research Center), Mr Hamed Manifar (Director General of the Office of National Regulation and Building Control) and Mr Parviz Ghavaminejad (Deputy of Technical and Executive System of Tehran Management and Planning Organization) mentioned this issue It is appropriate that the technical and executive system of the country, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development and the Mring system, with the help of each other, reach a precise principles and foundations of this technology.
Following the program, all financial and spiritual sponsors of the conference, especially the Office of National Regulations and Building Control, Tehran Management and Planning Organization, as well as Petrochemical Industry Development Management Company (Golden Sponsor), Vista Faraz Company (Silver Sponsor), Mashhad Beim Company ( Bronze sponsor) was praised and thanked.
Also in this period of the conference, a competition entitled “Programming Marathon in the BIM World” was held. This marathon, which was held for the first time in Iran at the same time as the 4th BIM International Conference, was well received and the three best participants were introduced as the winners and a cash gift was awarded to Mr. Amir Hakim, the winner of the marathon. We would like to thank all the organizers of this marathon, especially Mr. Hossein Mousavi, Mr. Saeed Dehghani, Mr. Ghasem Ariani and Ms. Laia Darfashi for their tireless efforts in holding this marathon.
Finally, by holding an online exam for upgrading the engineering system in the presence of a representative of the National Bureau of Regulations and Building Control for two consecutive days, the esteemed applicants participated in the exam and obtained a passing score and received a certificate of participation in a training course to upgrade the engineering system.
Fortunately, the conference poll, with the satisfaction of about 90% of the participants, showed an acceptable level of satisfaction at this year’s conference. It is hoped that by holding this conference more productively in the coming periods, an effective step will be taken to advance the construction situation of the country.
Given the role and position of holding international conferences in the exchange of knowledge and experience between government agencies, employers, contractors, consultants, researchers, university professors and other BIM activists, the final statement of the fourth conference emphasized the need to hold annual conferences. The organizers and supporters of the conference were instructed to hold the fifth round of this international conference.
